Yes I know I'm a wolf and I've been known to bite, But I'm telling you that you'll be safe with me
Welcome
Hello potential student and/or teacher!! Before you begin, there are a few things your had better know right away.
First, Whispers in the Dark is an alternate universe Vampire Knight rp. Meaning, we are based largely upon the anime, but we've expanded the world in a pretty big way and we just don't feel comfortable claiming it can be in the same universe as the original.
Secondly, there are only original characters here. There should be a certain equality among our student body and to achieve that, we feel everyone should play their own character and not one designed to be the star of the show. We are all the stars of our own show.
And finally, we are rated PG-13. We know our limits, but we love to use them to the fullest.
Your pre-orientation is now complete. If we seem like the place for you, check out the plot and the rest of the rules and don't be afraid to ask us anything in the cbox!
Very sorry, but purebloods and alphas are banned to beginning members. Once you have at least one character and show us you keep it active, please feel free to post a pureblood or alpha character to be considered.

The Season
Year
Year One, First Semester
Season
Winter
The school has finally opened its doors to the... well, it's not so public yet.
All students are here by invitation only for now. Why? Because Cross Academy is a school unlike
any other... and not just because their school year begins in winter. Grades levels
(meaning freshman, sophomore, etc.) don't really matter much here. After all, the
students aren't just here to learn. We're all here to try to coexist. That's our main
priority. Teaching kids as we do it is just a bonus.
adjective - Having a smooth, rich flow; filled with something (such as honey) that sweetens.

We are hard at work redoing everything for WITD. It's been years and we are all older and wiser now, so it's time to give this site another shot! Let's get this thing back open!!
As in traditional folklore, they are sensitive to the sun and dwell within the night, however sunlight will only cause sunburns and will not harm them fatally. When vampires are killed they turn into dust. The most effective way to kill a vampire is through the head or the heart. Vampires have developed alternate forms of acquiring artificial blood without the need to feed, however it does not taste very good, so there are still a wide range of them who refuse to be 'vegetarians'.
History
Vampires have existed for thousands of years. The original vampires appeared when mankind's ancient civilizations began to crumble, however the actual creation of them is by unknown forces; most pureblood vampire families have their own story of how their species began. At one point there was a war with the humans, during which purebloods began turning humans into vampires. When the number of vampires increased, the pure families became royals and a monarchy was established to bring order. There are few pureblood vampires left today, but their authority over the other classes remains and they do well to keep the peace and remain hidden from the world of humans.
Classes
There exists 4 levels of vampires. These are based on the purity of vampire blood, depending on how diluted their heritage is by human blood.
Purebloods
The heritage of these vampires hasn't been diluted by human blood. They're the strongest type of vampire and have the most significant powers. Despite the fact that purebloods are very powerful, they only make up for a very small portion of the vampire population. It is taboo to kill or to even harm a pureblood; as a result, purebloods are treated like royalty. They are the only level of vampire who can change a human into a vampire.
Aristocrats
They are elite vampires with specialized abilities beyond normal vampires. They have a small amount of human blood in their ancestry. These aristocratic vampires enjoy a much more independent lifestyle than common vampire.
Common
Average vampires with no significant powers beyond increased strength and speed.
Ex-humans
When a human is bitten by a pureblood vampire, they will either die from toxic blood or more likely suffer the slow agony of the awakening to become a vampire. One of the few advantages is that unlike normal vampires, they are not overly sensitive to sunlight.
Eventually every ex-human vampire falls into a permanent psychotic state, a mad vampire with an uncontrollable bloodlust. These vampires are then put on the list for extermination. They can, however, be saved from this fate if their pureblood creator gives them blood.

Werewolves are very large canines built solely to hunt and kill vampires. Unlike common legends, werewolves are able to change whenever they like and are not controlled by the moon. When a werewolf is killed as a wolf, it does not change back into its human form. There is no easy way to kill one. Silver bullets are just a myth. However, severing his head seems to work the best. Drowning also works, seeing as werewolves can't swim; their genetic density is too great. They sink like rocks.
Werewolves are the fastest things on land, able to chase down even vampires with relative ease. Because of their heritage, wolves have a strong instinct to kill vampires which must be controlled to live in peace; yet due to this and their rough history, many wolves deeply hate the vampire race. Werewolves also possess powers similar to that of vampires; said to be because vampire blood was used in their creation.
At Cross Academy, they live in the twilight dorm and are required to take suppresser pills to keep them calm and less aggressive toward their bloodsucking classmates.
History
Werewolves surfaced sometime during the war between vampires and humans. The original werewolves were created by human scientists when they attempted to create super soldiers to combat the high level vampires; however once the war was over, the beasts were adopted by vampire hunters and began to live at their feet as pets, doing their dirty work. When an ingrained genetic trait to keep the werewolves submissive defected, they started abandoning their masters, starting packs, thinking on their own, and keeping their breed a secret by hiding in their human forms. They have been all but forgotten by both the vampires and the hunters, believing to have gone extinct. They had been reduced to scary fairy tales, but their numbers have grown and now they have decided to reenter the world.
Classes
There are 4 ranks to the werewolf hierarchy, based upon the physical, mental, and emotional strength of the individual.
Alphas
Alpha werewolves grow the biggest of all the ranks, growing about 8 feet high at the shoulder as an adult. They normally possess very high physical as well as mental abilities. Even alone, the very essence of these wolves is pack. Where lower wolves would become mooncalled without a pack, the alpha class is immune. In fact, an alpha is needed in a pack to keep the others from becoming mooncalled. They are low in numbers, but for a good cause; alphas are highly territorial, once they reach adulthood, it is very rare for them to share a domain with another alpha wolf.
Subordinates
The most common werewolves. They usually have no powers and grow 4-6 feet at the shoulder in adulthood.
Omegas
Omegas are very small for werewolves, normally only growing about as tall as a normal (non-werewolf) wolf and are normally thin and lanky. They are at the bottom of the pack ranks because of their inability to fight, but they do play a very important role. All omegas are gifted with an extreme empathy. Meaning they can compel the wolves around them to feel certain things. Due to the lack of violence and aggression within their personalities, they provide a calming source of relaxation for the whole pack. It is because of these wolves that multiple alpha wolves can live within the same area.
Mooncalled
Becoming mooncalled is a disease in which wolves gradually become uncontrollable, insane beasts with a lust to kill and eat almost everything that comes their way. This happens when a werewolf is not part of a pack for an extended period of time. They begin to lose all memory of who they are go feral. If they are not killed by their fellow wolves, they will drop dead on their own eventually. A lone wolf is a dead wolf.
The animal and human soul of a werewolf make up one being, but are two different things. Every wolf is only one person, there is no difference between the wolf them and the human them, but they have two "half-souls", so to speak. If the wolf half is allowed to take over (which is what slowly happens when a werewolf lives away from a pack), the human soul begins to wither and fade away. The time frame in which their depravity sets in depends upon the wolf's prior mental state and will power. The disease begins within a few months of being without a pack and the time before all control is gone can be anywhere from a few months to a few years. Death occurs once the human soul is completely gone.
The disease can only be cured while in its early phases.

Vampire hunters are gifted humans that hunt and kill rogue and dangerous vampires. They are consider the policing force of vampires. Vampire hunters generally have an antagonistic attitude toward vampires, mostly due to being taught from a young age about the danger posed by vampires and the damage they have done in the past. A hunter, although appearing human and without powers, is a not completely human. They are viewed as a sub-species, created in ancient times by humans consuming the blood of pureblood vampires. This practice is far beyond extinct, but the abilities of the originals were passed on through the genes.
History
Long ago, hunters were created along side the appearance of the first vampires. There exist many versions of 'why' the blood of vampires was first consumed, but the true story is lost to time. After consumption, however, the blood poisoned the humans, killing many more than it left alive. Those who survived became what we know today as hunters. The blood gave them accelerated healing, the ability to sense vampires, and increased stamina and agility. When the vampires and humans were in the middle of war, the vampire hunters took in and harnessed the power of the original werewolves. Because of this, werewolves have an ingrained instinct to follow their orders. In the past, a hunter need only command and a wolf would follow; nowadays, though the instinct still remains, complete control is long gone, but a hunters word is very persuasive.
