Yes I know I'm a wolf and I've been known to bite, But I'm telling you that you'll be safe with me
Welcome
Hello potential student and/or teacher!! Before you begin, there are a few things your had better know right away.
First, Whispers in the Dark is an alternate universe Vampire Knight rp. Meaning, we are based largely upon the anime, but we've expanded the world in a pretty big way and we just don't feel comfortable claiming it can be in the same universe as the original.
Secondly, there are only original characters here. There should be a certain equality among our student body and to achieve that, we feel everyone should play their own character and not one designed to be the star of the show. We are all the stars of our own show.
And finally, we are rated PG-13. We know our limits, but we love to use them to the fullest.
Your pre-orientation is now complete. If we seem like the place for you, check out the plot and the rest of the rules and don't be afraid to ask us anything in the cbox!
Very sorry, but purebloods and alphas are banned to beginning members. Once you have at least one character and show us you keep it active, please feel free to post a pureblood or alpha character to be considered.

The Season
Year
Year One, First Semester
Season
Winter
The school has finally opened its doors to the... well, it's not so public yet.
All students are here by invitation only for now. Why? Because Cross Academy is a school unlike
any other... and not just because their school year begins in winter. Grades levels
(meaning freshman, sophomore, etc.) don't really matter much here. After all, the
students aren't just here to learn. We're all here to try to coexist. That's our main
priority. Teaching kids as we do it is just a bonus.
adjective - Having a smooth, rich flow; filled with something (such as honey) that sweetens.

Things really couldn't have gone better for the classes of the night. Dmitri rubbed the back of his neck for a moment and yawned deeply as he went over the homework and test papers that he'd need to grade before tomorrow. Not that he particularly wanted to do it. This was always the most tedious part of his job, or at least that was what he personally figured. But it was important, so he would just get it over with then do something fun for what little time he had left to himself.
While he was more than appreciative to the efforts of the school staff, he found himself more than a little bit weary of the Twilight class. They were his natural predators, after all. But yet that was not why he was frightened. He was more worried that the night class would try to goad the poor wolves into aggression. After all, he'd been around teenagers long enough to know that some of them could do some extraordinarily stupid things. For instance, one year some vampires had dared each other to attend a day class. It had not ended well. After a quick wince from the memory, he continued to grade the papers.
Truth be told, he'd seen so much disgraceful behavior from humans and vampires both, that mixing both wolves and hunters into the mix seemed like a downright poor choice. Not that he would go against what the principle said about it. All he could do was clench his jaw, and remain alert. Though hope remained that the school halls would remain mostly blood and viscera-free.
It was with that thought that his ears picked up a sound outside his door, and he turned to look at it, "Don't be afraid to come in. If you need me, I'm always here for a student." He called out to whoever might be on the other side of the door. There was no real telling who it could be. It could be a stray Twilight student, a night student, or--he paused to check the watch on his wrist-- even a very early day student.
Kristina, had gotten permission from the principle to become a teacher assistant. The reason, because she was very smart and had been doing real well with helping the teachers during the day time. It was volunteer work of course, though she never spend much time on her homework so she had time to help others while in the class unless the teacher was giving a lecture. Today had been such a busy day, going between teacher to teacher, letting them know that she was there to help anyway she could. The request to help during the twilight and night hours had caught the principle by surprise, but Kristina wasn't a threat and it seemed they believed she would be more than welcomed by the teachers of those classes. It was late at night, since the night class had finished and she wasn't tired, she felt a need to step into the class.
In the morning she would go to her classes like normal, helping anyway that she could before spending hours on end in the extra classes she was helping students in. She would be able to eat meals when she found the time, mostly excusing herself to be out of the classroom to do so, but what could one expect, she was human after all. Now, unless one had powers it would be hard to tell that she had them too. She was able to feel ones emotions, she was even able to encourage emotions, but she wouldn't be able to give others what she was currently feeling unless she touched them. It wouldn't go unnoticed that she would be wearing gloves on her hands. She slowed her pace to stop just outside of the door.
She heard him calling out to her, it was only polite to knock before turning the door knob. She pushed the door open and walked inside. One might be surprised that she was here, but she had to tell the teacher why she had come at this time of hour, seeing as she was a human. "Hello." She spoke slowly, still having her backpack slugged on her shoulder. There wasn't a day that went by that she was without that backpack. "I got permission from the principle to help you in your classes." She paused, wondering if he had heard about it already. It wouldn't surprise her, she noticed the stack of papers on his desk. It looked as if she had interrupted him from grading papers.

Dmitri eyed the student over, from her shoes up to her hair, and then back again. His expression was a mask of friendly inspection, but when he finally came to whatever conclusion he wanted to make, he folded his hands atop the paper he had been giving his attention, "Ah yes, I did hear about that. But when do you intend to sleep, my dear? You are only human, after all. And night classes run quite late." Though day classes did start a bit later than other schools, the sentiment remained.
He looked to the stack of papers when he noticed her eyes land on them, and he smiled to her ruefully, "Well. Who am I to deny a little help? You are quite the hard worker, aren't you?" He rummages through the papers until he finds her essay, looking it over for a moment before nodding, "You know how to research and use your time effectively. It is a good trait to have in a student." He stands from his desk and, instead, sits on one of the tables that in just a few hours would once again hold students' books, "Tell me. What is it you want to do when you leave here? I assume you intend for college?"
Though his eyes were drawn to the backpack which had obviously seen a good bit of love during her stay at the Academy, then to her face again. She looked a little tired. Granted, being both a student and a teacher's assistant was bound to do that to her. She was just one girl, and she still had her own work to do. It wasn't long before he found himself frowning slightly, his eyebrows furrowed in concern, "You need to take time to be social as well. Studying is all well and good, but socialization is very important for a teenager."
Kristina noticed him eyeing her but didn't seem to care, maybe it was because she was used to it by now, or his emotions seemed friendly enough. His question had caught her by surprise. "I plan on sleeping when I find the free time." She explained, it would likely happen after the night class if she didn't have to help somebody with homework or studying for a test. If she was lucky she would fit six hours in before having to wake up two hours before her classes started. "It doesn't run that late." She explained, knowing the hours that each class started and ended. His words made her smile, it sounded like he was more than willing to help her grade peoples after all, seeing as she wasn't new to the idea of getting things done correctly. He had searched through the papers and seemed to find the one he was looking for. His words made her believe he was looking at her essay. She nods her head in agreement but chooses not to saying anything on the subject.
She noticed him stand from his desk and move to a desk before sitting on the edge of it. "I'll be talking college courses during my senior year, but I do see myself having college after I finish." She paused, "Though I would still find myself lingering around here. It's home." What a strange phrase to say, but she didn't want her parents finding her and bringing her home. It would mean they would expect her to be a hunter just like them and she just couldn't do it. No, she wouldn't do it. "If I get permission, I see myself staying here while attending those college courses, because I like being a teacher assistant here, it gives me experience." What first was a volunteer position had turned into a job for her, it paid well enough that she was happy with it. She noticed his eyes move, but she didn't bother to say anything on the subject, she knew that he was looking at her backpack though.
When he looked back at her face she felt the tiredness somewhat getting to her, but she lived off of six hours of sleep or less and wasn't about to change it. She noticed him frowning, his emotions filled her. "Maybe, but I like my studies." She answered him back, oh dear she was a teenage girl after all. "Besides I like being busy, I don't have time to spend time with others unless it is helping them with assignments." Yup, she was a teenage girl alright and she wasn't about to have somebody suggest that she take a break from this life just to enjoy some company.

Dmitrti frowns slightly as he listens to her speak about her studies and lifts a hand as if to motion her for silence, "That is a worrisome thought process. I do understand that many people are introverted, and spending time with others drains their energy. But having absolutely no friends and only living for your work is not going to land you a very happy life in the long run. You are in highschool, my girl, and you really should be learning far more than just academic studies. Of course that is important as well, but you cannot unbalance your life as such." He stands straight, adjusting his overcoat.
"It is a little sad that you seem to feel as though you must prove yourself so thoroughly. One of these days it will wear down on your soul." He places a hand on his chest at the comment, looking to her with some pity before he walks over to his personal desk once more and sits back down, "I'm not saying you should do things that girls your age typically do, as every single person is different. But perhaps you will enjoy having friends outside of academia." There is nothing mean-spirited behind his words, simply a bit of concern. He'd had a few hard-hitting academics in his career, and unfortunately many of them simply burned out.
Of course there were also those that went on to do grand things, but those people typically had other things that they did. Studying was a wonderful source of a time killer, but it wasn't really entertaining. For many, it was extremely stressful. There was always such thing as too much of a good thing. But in the end he wasn't her father. He couldn't force her to go out and socialize.
Kristina noticed his hand go up, she could feel his emotions, it would be rude to continue when he clearly wanted to speak and so she went silent for him to know she finished. She thought of how she might chose her words very carefully. "Friends, they use each other, they expect one to depend on them." She was going somewhere with this, now how to word it how she desired. "I can only rely on myself." My parents expect me to help them rid the world of vampires, I won't join them. All I have is myself, I can't waste time putting my trust in others. He once more was talking and she remained silent. She looked away as if she had heard his words. Perhaps your right, but I refuse to risk trusting others. I grew up only being able to rely on myself. I'll help others but I can't trust them to have my back. One of her few reasons for wearing gloves. It was a fear to let others in, to help her.
He moved back behind his desk and sits back down. "I don't see myself ever leaving the academia. Going to college would be to get a degree just to come right back here." She meant it, she didn't know anything beyond the campus, she might have gone shopping for some food here and there so that she could ever now and then cook for herself but that was her limit. She didn't fear the vampires or werewolves as many humans did, she feared her parents finding her and forcing her to live a life she never chose for herself. "I'll think about it." That was all he would get on the subject. She wasn't going to make any promises, because that would mean possibly breaking them. He hadn't given her anything to do so she opted to move to the desk and sit down. Opting to play catch up on some studying just in case he decided to give her something to do after all.
"Are you worried about me?" She could feel his emotions, but calling him out on it would be rude, it would be best to ask him like any other student that didn't have that power. She couldn't help but wonder if her parents worried about her even though they had tried forcing her to be a hunter. She pushed the thought from her mind, opting to not tell anybody about her true feelings. There were very few who would be able to feel her emotions as she was able to feel theirs and that was others with the power of empathy. Though if they had the power they never called her out on it as she had chosen to do the same to them.

The girl's comment seemed a little odd. It spoke of betrayal, and he understood that well enough. But still yet he smiled to her, "Of course friends expect you to depend on them. As they depend on you as well. But it's much more symbiotic than you're making it sound." He pushes a few papers aside, pulling out a blank sheet from one of the drawers in his desk. On this paper, he draws a fish with black stripes on it, "This is a pilot fish. Pilot fish "befriend" sharks, and they both benefit from this. While a shark can certainly live on its own, it is healthier with these fish by its side."
He looks to her after a moment, then sighs softly and shakes his head when she gives him such a half-hearted answer. But it was all he could really ask for for the time being. So he allowed her to take her own seat to do her work, as he went back to grading his papers in silence. That is, until she asked him the question. When he looked at her, the light from the windows hit his eyes just right to make them seem as if they were glowing, and he simply smiles, "Of course I am. Teaching is merely a fraction of my job. Being emotionally available to my students is yet another."
Dmitri leans back in his seat, looking to the window itself for a time being, "Which means if you ever need anything, feel free to come to me with it. I am more than happy to help anyone who should need it. That is far more part of my job. So many of the kids here don't have parents that love them, or they're far from the people who do. I am simply a teacher but I try my hardest to make up for that."
After a moment, he sets his pen down and folds his hands on top of the paper as he thinks, "Teaching is as easy as you make it. But it is the ones that go above and beyond for their students that make them the most well-remembered. I strive every day to make a difference in the lives of my precious students. Perhaps I don't. Not every day, but I can feel decent enough with the fact that I give it a try."
Kristina heard him but didn't have any words to say on the subject. He was trying to still convince her of the benefit, she found herself listening but she wasn't about to make any promises she knew she might end up not keeping. Her question, she noticed the light coming in from the windows, it just meant less sleep for her. His emotions and his words, both gave comfort. Maybe that was another reason she was there and wasn't in a rush to leave the school, because she knew that she had at least somebody watching out for her. She found herself smiling at him, "Your more than just a teacher." She stated, "Maybe of the students look at you as somebody they can turn to." It wouldn't be a surprise to him that she could feel the emotions of others, she didn't exactly keep it a secret, she just didn't go out of her way to make contact, her reason for he wearing gloves. She nods her head to him, though he did make a difference in almost every student he was over. She knew, she was one of them. Though to tell him would be to admit to her feelings and those were thing she wished to keep to herself.
I should head to bed, with the light showing it means I have only a few more hours left before I must be up again anyway. She hadn't done much studying since coming into his class, but that was because she found herself talking instead. She knew in the morning that she would see him but until then she would head to sleep. She stood up from the desk and just smiled. "Well I think I'll take that advice on sleep." She stated, "See you in the morning." She made her way to the door and stopped. "Thanks for the advice." She then opened the door, walked out, closed it behind her, and then made the walk back towards her dorm.
