Yes I know I'm a wolf and I've been known to bite, But I'm telling you that you'll be safe with me
Welcome
Hello potential student and/or teacher!! Before you begin, there are a few things your had better know right away.
First, Whispers in the Dark is an alternate universe Vampire Knight rp. Meaning, we are based largely upon the anime, but we've expanded the world in a pretty big way and we just don't feel comfortable claiming it can be in the same universe as the original.
Secondly, there are only original characters here. There should be a certain equality among our student body and to achieve that, we feel everyone should play their own character and not one designed to be the star of the show. We are all the stars of our own show.
And finally, we are rated PG-13. We know our limits, but we love to use them to the fullest.
Your pre-orientation is now complete. If we seem like the place for you, check out the plot and the rest of the rules and don't be afraid to ask us anything in the cbox!
Very sorry, but purebloods and alphas are banned to beginning members. Once you have at least one character and show us you keep it active, please feel free to post a pureblood or alpha character to be considered.

Year
Year One, First Semester
Season
Winter
The school has finally opened its doors to the... well, it's not so public yet.
All students are here by invitation only for now. Why? Because Cross Academy is a school unlike
any other... and not just because their school year begins in winter. Grades levels
(meaning freshman, sophomore, etc.) don't really matter much here. After all, the
students aren't just here to learn. We're all here to try to coexist. That's our main
priority. Teaching kids as we do it is just a bonus.
adjective - Having a smooth, rich flow; filled with something (such as honey) that sweetens.

I Could Keep You Warm
Confusing ranges of emotions surged through the young werewolf as she heaved herself off the courtyard grass and into the sturdy branches of some overly fancy tree. Since the very moment she had set foot in this place, stepped off that god forsaken boat and been plopped right in the middle of this... clusterfuck, she just hadn't felt quite right with herself. Maybe is was all the humans; living her whole life in a pack separated from everyone except themselves didn't really put humans on Miki's list of important things.
The idea of weak little things that walked like her, talked like her, but couldn't do... pretty much anything, was a bizarre concept. Getting comfortable on a rather thick branch, the she wolf played with the thought as she watched them walk in and out of the courtyard. Miki just could see the purpose of such creatures. They would always need protecting, there were so many things that could hurt, maim, and kill them that it was just ridiculous. And to think that they were once the masters of her own race... she really didn't know how that made her feel.
Of course, bloodsuckers were out there too.
Not a single one had entered her line of sight yet and she had never met one in the past, but maybe it was instinct that was making her skin crawl. The suppresser pills worked decently, she supposed, but it didn't completely quell the uneasy feeling that washed over her when one strayed too near. She didn't have to see it to know that it was there. The urge to change has never been so strong as it was lately. But that would be "against the rules"; couldn't have giant wolves running around scaring the hell outta their unsuspecting student body... no matter how fun that sounded.
Such was life, she supposed with a sneer. School just had to suck the joy out of everything.

If there was one good thing that the Omega could find about this 'Cross Academy' it was the fresh air. The sent of freshly cut grass along that thicker scent of watered soil and cement tickled her nose into a sense of nostalgia for home. Of course, there was also a linger tinge of salt that she still had yet to escape after coming off the boat. Seawater was like a leech in its own way, clinging to every last bit your senses dared to have... Not even her ears could escape that rhythmic pulse similar to the waves' movement. Her legs on occasion would mimic her gut into thinking they were still moving, making stair climbing that much harder.
But those weren't really Academy complaints. Just general regrets. Much like after landing from the second airport... Oh the airsickness was absolutely dreadfully. She didn't think she'd ever make it to the taxi let alone the boat. Yet here she was, standing right in the middle of the courtyard. People probably thought her mad, spinning round 'n round like she was. So what? She had to attend the same classes as both humans and Leeches. The human part, not so bad. The Leeches? Its a good thing pliers existed. Not that she'd be able to fend one off if she managed to get herself into a hopeless brawl like that... Not that she'd admit that. That was just plain embarrassing and humiliating. The life of an tiny werewolf.
It wasn't like she really had any right to complain to that, having never met one herself. Or one of these 'Hunter' humans for that fact. Just Mooncalled wolves, insane lot those ones. The prospect of something worse than those made her skin shiver, her control on her physical state through her mental willpower the only thing keeping her from completely wolfing out at the mention of them. Did that make her coward? Hopefully not. It was a normal reaction wasn't it?
Not as normal as spotting a girl in a tree, tell you that much. Kyrie pranced about across the grass, ignoring the stares as she drowned herself in her memories and thoughts; only brought out by the 'equally strange' girl who sat in a tree. See? She wasn't the only one who didn't act like a 'proper lady'. Really now - why was that such an important thing?
Nevermind that. The girl almost skipped toward the other, placing one hand at the trunk and looking up. What? She wasn't gonna climb that thing. And besides, that was a rather nice view. Oh very nice indeed. It brought a more an equal sly-creepy grin to her face, not quite sure as to which would win out in the end. "Well look whose 'King of the Mountain'." She called, keeping her voice silky yet neutral. "Havin' fun up there? I can tell ya I'm enjoyin' it down here." Forget sly, she just went straight toward a flirtatious teasing; fully prepared to be received as 'some creepy girl'. Normal greeting were overrated anyway.

I Could Keep You Warm
Perhaps it was largely due to the lifestyle that she was accustomed to, but thus far, watching the tranquil shuffle of the people in this school was almost painful. After only a few minutes of their quiet chattering and excruciatingly slow pace, Miki was having a hard time not vocalizing her distaste. Instead, she groaned to herself and rubbed at her temple as she reclined back against the trunk of the tree. Is this what a peaceful society looked like or was this just limbo? Was something like this supposed to be fun?
It was no wonder whoever the hell was in charge of this place had brought the werewolves in. Maybe, if given enough time and numbers, they could disrupt some of this monotony and liven the place up some. Her own urge to cause a little mischief was itching at the surface, waiting to be unleashed upon the unsuspecting public. How would they even respond to a little chaos? Panic, most likely... well, at least they'd pick up the pace a little. It was too boring to just exist, wasn't it?
Just as all hope seemed lost, a blemish in the tedium presented itself in the form of a lone girl twirling around right in the middle of everything like she didn't care about any of the bewildered looks she was receiving. What a sight for sore eyes! A little too enthusiastic for Miki's taste, but at least it was something different.
A particularly chilly wind, whipped through the courtyard, dancing with her hair and carrying to her the undeniable scent of another wolf. Really, she should have known it would take one of her own kind to bring life to an otherwise dead area. The redhead must have just gotten in or something; that would explain why she had been spinning around like an idiot.
Idly, mismatched eyes followed the new wolf as she ventured nearer. Looks like she wasn't the only one that had caught the other's attention. Gazing down, probably more curiously than she would like to admit, the alphess took in the other briefly. Sometimes it was hard to tell on first glance, but Miki was guessing omega. She had that sort of carefree aura about her... Or that could be complete horse shit and she could just getting too cocky.
Sitting up from the tree trunk and leaning over her branch to acknowledge the girl fully, Miki gave her a bemused smirk, "You mean: Queen of the Tree." She corrected jokingly. Definitely omega. There was no way a subordinate could make almost all the hostility within her dissipate without even trying. No empathy was needed for something like that; it was like the wolf soul inside her just knew there was no threat, just like it knew without knowing where the vampires were.
"You're a strange one." She mused to the girl's latter comment. Was that considered flirting? It's not like Miki was modest or anything, in fact, she was quite proud of herself, but she didn't usually get attention like that... at least not from her own gender. Well, a compliment's a compliment no matter how you look at it, she supposed. Still flattering.
It was a shame to leap down from her tree; after all, she had just climbed it not long ago, but it wasn't like anything was going on that hadn't been going on since before she even got there. Talking to her fellow she-wolf took priority, so she pushed herself off the branch, being sure to land a comfortable distance from the redhead and extended her hand. "Miki Holland." She introduced, "You must be new. You just get here?"

Kyrie returned that smirk in kind with the reply that came to her own playful observation. "King, Queen - both get harems." She giggled softly, "I'll agree to that tree part though." Being this much closer allowed for a more detailed mental report. From what limbs she could see, there was a strength. The mere ability to scale a tree meant that this 'lady' was no princess but rather an amazon queen. Amusing really, far too much so the girl was already grinning from ear to ear in that thought. But it was the scent that she picked up from this range that told her she wasn't alone in the academy. Both comforting and a little worrying at the same time. Though she had smelt other wolves before, it was still rather difficult for her to tell the difference between the ranks based on that alone. Body language was of no help for now, not yet. But she could tell the other was no Omega. A stranger wolf with the ability to fight - that's what that meant.
That dissipate the girl's friendliness any though. If anything it was more reassuring for herself against the more hostile of leeches. Was it cruel? To think of your fellow wolves as a meat shield? Hardly. It was smart thinking. Kyrie tilted her head at the she-wolf's next words, a little play of innocence twinkling in her eyes. "Strange? I'll take that as compliment if it'll let you remember me a little easier." Yeah, she was still going along with her earlier play. Leaning against the tree with her forearms, the wolf blinked up at the other. "Of course I don't think I'll be able to forget you either." She teased, a truth hidden behind the playful tone. She hadn't angered the other just yet with all her familiarity so it was fine so far. As such she'd keep up the act for a bit longer if only for her own amusement and the gawking eyes of passerby children.
Honestly, the girl hadn't expected the other to give up her perch in those lower branches. A little tickle of gratitude speckling the silence in her own mind. A little applause followed the landing, a cheeky "Thank you for not landing on me." chuckled out in the form of a joke. In the beginning, the girl had only meant to accept the others greeting along with their hand; return her own name... And yet old habits died hard it seemed. After accepting the other's hand, Kyrie moved closer; bringing the limb up to face-level. She sniffed at this 'Miki Holland's' wrist - much like how others in her birth pack would do. She caught herself quickly enough, a little start of embarrassment coloring her cheeks lightly. Too late to change it now. "Kyrie. Kyrie Riverend." She tapped at the girl's arm with a free finger, "I'll remember you Miki Holland."
With that she let the other go free, slipping out of the grasp as easily and casually as she could like as if she had meant for that to happen. Smooth play Kyrie, very smooth. Did that with your old siblings too didn't you? Congratulations. Never mind any of that. A simple nod confirmed the later sentence. "Arrived a few days ago but just got into the academy. Funny place I must say. Stinks up a heap." One hand motioned for the other to take a turn, "How about you? Been here long?"

Coquettish. The word persistently summoned itself to the forefront of Miki's mind to describe this new wolf. Surprisingly, almost aggressively coquettish. "I guess you really would remember me if I had landed on you." She replied lightheartedly, "Don't supposed I'd forget about some weirdo I just met tackling me from a tree either." She thought about adding some playful remark about how she should climb back up and do it again, but figured that would just encourage the flirtatious behavior and lead to some awkward misunderstandings.
As her hand was grasped, the she-wolf tensed as if she hadn't been expecting it and an unpleasant shiver slithered up her spine. She had to remind herself, first and foremost, that she was an alpha and didn't need to be such a wuss, and also that she had been the one to offer her hand first. The people here weren't like the people at home; physical contact did not mean the same thing. However, having her hand so close to the other was a little too intimate for her liking. Miki almost found herself growling on instinct, but her hand was dropped before the sound could rumble from her throat.
"Kyrie." She acknowledged with a tilt of her head. The uneasy feeling had subsided with the lack of contact and the girl found herself back to a state of no hostility. She mentally stomped all over her previous thoughts and feelings, scolding herself for letting any remnants from her birth pack follow her all the way across the ocean. May that whole place catch fire and burn until it was nothing but ash wolf bones.
A laugh bubbled up from her throat and Miki couldn't help but agree, "No kiddin' about that. But you better get used to it; the reek is there to stay." What with all the vampires lurking just outside of her view and the humans with their many peculiar smells, it would never smell normal here. Luckily, she mused to herself in mild disgust, there were all these fancy plants to sit on top of all that stink. "I keep hoping I'll go nose blind to it, but it seems the day will never come."
"I've not been here long, but it looks like I was the first." She said with a shrug, "Guess they needed at least one alpha here before they shipped in a bunch of mutts to lose their mind." Though she still wasn't sure how they had managed to hunt her down in the wilderness of Oklahoma or how they got the invitation in when there was thousands of acres of mountainous terrain and no trails. Mysterious. Miki wondered if they worked that hard bringing in all the wolves. "So where did they find you?" She asked, curiosity getting the better of her.

Why was the awkwardness not going away..? A mental question for her old habit to answer to. It didn't answer... the twat. But then that's what life-styles did. Cause humiliation to all of those who no longer desired it. Best to just shrug it off and continue on with life. For a moment it didn't seem like she'd be able to pretend it never happened, it didn't take a genius to notice the instant tensing to know that she'd crossed barriers. Not to mention she could already feel the others growing hostility. She didn't need to hear it to know that growl that lingered in the depths of the wolf's throat.
'Play it cool Kyrie, be smooth as whipped cream...' That's right, act like everything is natural. Its not like that was the first time she'd done that to someone who was more than a little uncomfortable with personal space. "Miki." She chimed back, an innocent smile trying to cover over her earlier blunder. Didn't seem as necessary with the returning friendliness the other gave her. The girl echoed the laugh with a soft giggle of her own after the sentence, giving her a nod and snap of her fingers in agreement. "Makes you wonder which is worse: perfume or leeches? Pretty sure we already have others who are already taking bets on that." How amusing would that be? Especially since they had to share classrooms with both creatures along with themselves, one could only wonder just how long that would last. If not at all. No wonder they wanted Omegas along with the Alphas. Few ever did really appreciate all the trouble she and her fellow 'weaklings' had to go through to pacify those power-hungry tyrants.
Not that she realized one such tyrant was standing before her. The few memories she did have of any good ones were short and recent. It was hard to forget a battle between those goliaths, never could get along with them very well as a pup. The thoughts were pushed from her mind quickly enough after just the slightest hint of a memory popping up, didn't need to drag her mood down. "Nose-blind? We'd be better off with the senses of these 'normal kids' with how ignorantly bliss they all are." A small bark of laughter echoed lightly from her. A small moment of seriousness surrounded her "I almost envy them for that." broken by her heavier snickering just moments after.
Gaining control of herself again, she listened to the new information. "Aren't you lucky. Got to be the first to sniff out the dorms, 'ey? Find any skeletons in the closets?" She mused, not quite catching the statement of being an Alpha until a good moment later. There was a hidden jolt more or less scrambling with her innards rather than playing on her face like some dimwitted fool. Only a little bead of sweat quickly wiped from her forehead showed any hint of that sudden douse of fear. Hold it back, don't let it taint your scent... Play the fool, the amorous wolf, just don't let it show. Things always got bad when the Omegas showed fear toward anything that wasn't a different pack. Her childhood had engraved that very heavily into her brain.
There was a moment of thought, or so she played it; one finger tapping lightly at her cheek as she looked toward the ground. "Where huh? I guess the best answer would be: 'Civilization'. It really was a mystery truly. Did they know about her from birth or did they find her through the system? Was it her recent family or her own blunders? It was hard to say for certain. "How about you?" Kyrie countered, a curious smile playing at her lips. Never mind that she left her vague answer still horribly vague.
